Saturday, June 28--'08 East Division Playoffs - Battle Creek (116) vs. Elgin (100) - Battle Creek used a huge fourth quarter to defeat Elgin and advance to the East Division Playoff final versus Elkhart on Sunday. The Knights and Racers were tied at 77 entering the final period, but Battle Creek dominated the quarter--outscoring Elgin 39-23 to close out the game. Kendrick Cornelius scored 25 to lead the Knights, with Mike Williams pitching in 24. Keith Gayden was the top scorer for Elgin, finishing with 23 points and 17 rebounds in the loss. Saturday, June 28--'08 West Div. Playoffs - C. Oregon (114) vs. Vancouver (132) - The Volcanoes cruised into Sunday's West Division Playoff final on the strength of a balanced scoring attack that saw eight players finish in double figures. Kevin Tyner narrowly missed a triple-double in the win, scoring 22 points, grabbing nine rebounds, and dishing out 10 assists. Shawn Malloy also came up big for the Volcanoes, pulling down a game-high 16 boards to go along with his 16 points. Box Score.
Saturday, June 28--'08 West Div. Playoffs - Edmonton (101) vs. Bellingham (129) -
The Bellingham Slam defended their top playoff seeding as they defeated the Edmonton Chill, 129-101, in International Basketball League Western Conference Championship semi-final action on Saturday afternoon at the Monroe Sports Arena. The win puts the Slam into the conference final against either Central Oregon or Vancouver on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Tyler Amaya and Hartley shared team-high scoring honors for the Slam with 24 points apiece, while Diggs and Paul Hafford contributed 21 points each. Amaya was also the game’s leading rebounder with 12 boards. The Chill, who ended their inaugural season with a 13-9 record, were led by Rashaun Broadus’ 24 points. Box Score.
Friday, June 27--'08 East Division Playoffs - Windy City (106) vs. Elkhart (123) - The Elkhart Express trailed the Soldiers by one point after the first quarter, but outscored the Soldiers in the second to build an 11 point half-time lead they would not relinquish. County (116) - The Central Oregon Hotshots rallied from an 11 point fourth quarter deficit to knock off the host Explosion on Friday. Thursday, June 26--'08 (Game 198)- Edmonton Chill (106) vs Jazz of Tacoma (114) The Chill squandered a 19 point lead in the road loss to the Jazz, and also lost the #3 seed in the West Division Playoffs in the process. Lorenzo Rollins was the game's top scorer, pacing the Jazz with 31 points in the win. Jeff Dunn led the Chill with 23 points in the loss. The Chill will take on the Portland Chinooks in first-round playoff action at the Monroe Sports Arena at 5:00pm tomorrow.

Wednesday, June 25--'08 (Game 196)- Shanxi Zhongyu (94) vs C.O. Hotshots (111)
The Central Oregon Hotshots used a late run to defeat the Shanxi Zhongyu on Wednesday, and end the regular season for both teams. The Zhongyu got within three points of the Hotshots early in the fourth quarter before Central Oregon used a 14-3 run to create some breathing room. Shawn Hampton led the way for the Hotshots with 24 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Chris Nixon pitched in 23 points in the victory. Sun Chun Lei scored 29 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the way for Shanxi. Box Score.
Tuesday, June 24--'08 (Game 195) - Snohomish County (133) vs. Olympia (92) - The Explosion won for the fourth straight time on Tuesday, defeating the Olympia Reign in front of over 700 fans at Tumwater High School to close out their second IBL regular season. Justin Murray and Rashaad Powell keyed the victory, with Murray scoring a game-high 25 points to go along with 11 rebounds, and Powell finishing with a triple-double (20 points, 11 rebounds and 12 assists). Quentin Nolen led the Reign, who will join the IBL full-time in 2009, with 18 points in the loss.
Tuesday, June 24--'08 (Game 194) - Elgin Racers (139) vs. Las Vegas Stars (126) -The Racers took the first of the two game series between these two teams with their second highest scoring output of the season on Tuesday. Tuesday, June 24--'08 (Game 192) - Battle Creek (144) vs. Grand Rapids (107) - The Knights emerged with a solid win over their intra-state rivals in the regular season finale for both teams. Saturday, June 21--'08 (Game 187) - Shanxi Zhongyu (99) vs Snohomish Co. (141)The Snohomish County Explosion put the finishing touches on their home schedule with a convincing 141-99 victory over the visiting Shanxi Zhongyu of China. The game marked the 2008 home debut of All-Star guard Rashaad Powell. The Explosion outscored China in every period of the victory. Powell led six Explosion players with a game-high 29 points and finished two rebounds shy of recording a triple-double. Jamal Miller added 25 points and 11 assists, and Alex Adediran dropped in 21 points. In a total team effort, 10 of 11 Explosion players that saw action scored field goals. They also dished out an amazing 36 assists on 49 field goals. Snohomish County finished the game shooting 55 percent from the floor including 50 percent from long range. Shanxi Zhongyu had five players finish in double digits led by a team-high 22 points from guard Kevin Tyner formerly a member of the Vancouver Volcanoes. Sun Chun Lei contributed 18 points, Zhai Jun Shuai added 17 and Yu Tao put in 16 points. China was held to just 25 percent from long range as they were forced to shoot from the outside. They were also outsized down low, which led to the 57-38 disadvantage on the boards. Phil Givens was absolutely on fire for the Lightning, scoring 57 points in the win--the second highest single game total in the IBL this season.Kamran Sufi, the IBL assist leader, handed out 13 dimes and 7-3 Keith Closs collected nine blocks, eight rebounds and seven points.Jonathan Heard led Arizona with 28 points while Johnnie Parker (23 points, 16 rebounds) and Amani Daanish (23 pts, 15 rebs) both posted double-doubles. Friday, June 20--'08 (Game 181) - Arizona Flame (120) vs. Los Angeles (132) - Lamond Murray scored 28 points and grabbed nine rebounds, leading the L.A. Lightning to a 132-120 triumph over the Arizona Flame on Friday night at the Gilbert Sports Arena. Fred Vinson added 23 points for the Lightning (8-11), who jumped out a 27-17 lead after one quarter of the IBL game. Jonathan Heard scored 27 for the Flame, who trimmed the deficit to one, 44-43, on a layup by Leon Fiaherty with 3:58 to go in the first half. L.A. regained control with a 10-4 run, ignited by a 3-pointer by Wayne Oliver. The Lightning led 59-50 at intermission and the lead never got below nine in the second half, thanks to 60 percent shooting by the home team. Keith Closs, a 7-3 center who played three seasons with the Clippers, had an outstanding game for L.A. with 14 points (on 6-6 shooting), 17 rebounds and eight blocked shots. Ronell Mingo missed a double-double by one rebound (16 points, nine boards) while IBL assist leader Sufi Kamran tossed in 16 points and matched his average with 12 assists.The Lightning shot 50.5 percent for the game while holding the Flame to 21.1 percent from the 3-point line (8-38). Not to be outdone, Kenny Tate pitched in a triple-double, scoring 15 points, pulling down 12 boards and dishing out 13 assists. Larry Smith’s 27 points came exclusively from behind the arc. Sunday, June 15--'08 (Game 175) - Bellingham Slam (148) vs. Portland (137) - The Bellingham Slam protected their first place position in the IBL's West Division with the win over the Chinooks at Warner Pacific College on Sunday. It was a bounce back victory for the Slam, who saw their 12 game winning streak snapped in their previous outing against Vancouver. Tyler Amaya led the way for Bellingham, scoring a game-high 40 points to go along with eight rebounds and eight assists. Saturday, June 14--'08 (Game 172) - Bellingham Slam (131) vs. Vancouver (134) -
The top two teams in the IBL’s West Division went head to head on Saturday, and put on a tremendous show for the fans at Clark College. In the end, the Volcanoes prevailed in overtime by the score of 134-131. Brad Lechtenberg only had six points for Vancouver, but three of them came at the end of regulation to force overtime. Porter Troupe and Josh Jackson each scored 23 points to lead the Volcanoes. Tyler Amaya matched their output, with 23 points to pace the Slam. Amaya also added a game-high 16 rebounds. Box Score.
Saturday, June 14--'08 (Game 171) - C. Oregon (110) vs. Snohomish County (131) The Snohomish County Explosion downed the Central Oregon Hotshots 131-110 in front of 862 fans at the Monroe Sports Arena. The game marked the end of the regular season for the Hotshots who finished with a record of 8-16 going into the playoffs. The Explosion improved to 12-9 with one game left on their schedule next Saturday versus the Shaanxi Zhongyu of China. Central Oregon suited only seven players as star guard Terry Horton was unable to play due to illness. Snohomish County took advantage of the undermanned team as the game drew to a close. Jamal Miller took charge in the third stanza. He drained four three pointers en route to 21 third quarter points. Jadae Bonds led the way for the Hotshots in place of Horton. He scored 9 of his 28 points in the third period as he tried to keep Central Oregon in the game. Miller led all scorers with 29. Alex Adediran added 26 points and Justin James tallied 25. Bonds led five Hotshots in double digits with 28 points and Phillip Freeman contributed 20. Box Score.
Saturday, June 14--'08 (Game 170) - Los Angeles (121) vs. Elkhart Express (157) -Three wasn’t the charm for the road-weary L.A. Lightning on Saturday night in a 157-121 loss to the two-time defending IBL champion Elkhart Express in front of 2,937 fans at the North Side Gym. It was the third loss in four nights of a Midwestern trip for the Lightning (7-10). Los Angeles tied a season high with 19 3-pointers in 38 attempts but the Express were even better, draining 26-of-50 from downtown.Fred Vinson poured in 19 of his 23 points in the first quarter, thanks to 5-9 long-distance shooting but the Lightning still trailed 40-35. After falling behind by 14, the visitors closed with a 17-7 run to pull within four at intermission, 70-66. Billy Knight, who scored a season-high 29 points, hit a trio of treys during that stretch.The Lightning was still within four, 79-75, when Knight drilled another 3 at the 8:42 mark of the third quarter. The Express took control with a 23-4 run that was fueled by offensive rebounds and second-chance points.They ended the third stanza on a 36-12 tear that gave them a 115-87 lead heading into the final period. Cedric Moodie hit 8-14 from 3-point range and led Elkhart with 32 points. Ronell Mingo had 18 points and eight rebounds for L.A. Greg Minor scored all 15 of his points in the fourth quarter, hitting 5-8 from beyond the 3-point arc. Elkhart outrebounded the Lightning 65-45, including 28-10 at the offensive end. Tuesday, June 10--'08 (Game 157) - Edmonton Chill (125) vs. Elgin Racers (122) - The Chill halted their three game losing skid with an incredible come frome behind win over the Racers on Tuesday. The Chill trailed by 20 at the half--and by 25 in the third quarter before Rashaun Broadus and J.R. Patrick keyed the furious rally. Broadus finished with a game-high 31 points. Sunday, June 8--'08 (Game 156) - Bellingham Slam (117) vs. Jazz ot Tacoma (107)
The Bellingham Slam overcame a sluggish start as they won their twelfth straight game, 117-107 over the Tacoma Jazz in a physical International Basketball League game at Mount Tahoma High School on Sunday. The Slam started the game cold, scoring just seven points in the first five minutes. But Tacoma had an equally tough time scoring, and led by just five, at 30-25, at the end of the first quarter. Bellingham got its offense going in the second quarter, and used a 9-0 run in the middle stages of the quarter to take a 46-45 lead. The Slam maintained their single-point lead going into halftime, at 61-60. In the third quarter, the Slam’s defense came up big, holding the Jazz to 21 points in the quarter and helping the Slam extend their lead to 90-81 after three periods. The Jazz wouldn’t go away quietly, however, as they hit a trio of three-pointers to trim the Slam’s lead back down to one early in the fourth quarter. Ryan Diggs responded for the Slam by scoring eight straight points to put Bellingham’s lead back into double digits, at 105-94, with 4:34 left to play. The Slam used solid free throw shooting down the stretch to seal the victory. Diggs led the Slam in scoring with 26 points, including 11 in the fourth quarter. Lukas Henne was not far behind, notching a double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds. (102) vs. Portland (104) - The game went down to the final possession, but the Portland Chinooks were able to hold on and secure the victory over the visiting Snohomish County Explosion on Sunday. Larry Smith was the game’s top scorer, finishing with 27 points for the Chinooks. Kenny Tate added a triple-double in the win (14 points; 14 rebounds and 10 assists). The game marked the return of 2007 IBL All-Stars Justin Murray and Rashaad Powell into the Explosion line-up following commitments overseas. Seven Hotshots scored in double figures, led by a game-high 29 points from Cliff White. Terry Horton grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds for the Hotshots to go along with 22 points. The Windy City Soldiers won their tenth game of the season with Sunday’s 133-125 victory over the Edmonton Chill. DeMarcus Bolton led six Soldiers’ scoring in double figures with 25 points. Bolton also pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds. Lee Scruggs posted a big double-double in the loss, recording game-high totals in points (28) and rebounds (12). Box Score.
Saturday, June 7--'08 (Game 152) - Las Vegas (134) vs. Los Angeles (144) - Lamond Murray erupted for 28 points and 18 rebounds in the second half Friday night and the L.A. Lightning rallied from a 20-point first-half defecit to beat the Las Vegas Stars 144-134 in a first-place IBL showdown. Murray, a 6-8 forward who played 12 years in the NBA, finished with 36 points and 22 rebounds. He canned 16-of-20 from the free-throw line, including 15-18 after intermission, when the Lightning trailed 68-49. Billy Knight, starting in place on the injured Toby Bailey (ankle sprain), scored a season-high 27 with eight rebounds. The Vancouver Volcanoes improved to 15-4 on the season with Friday’s 147-124 victory over the Central Oregon Hotshots at Clark College. Alex Hartman topped the balanced Vancouver scoring attack with 23 points. Porter Troupe pitched in 21 points in the victory, while Brad Lechtenberg and Kevin Bloodsaw each finished with 19 points. Friday, June 6--'08 (Game 149) - Los Angeles (145) vs. Las Vegas Stars (142) - Toby Bailey drained a 3-pointer from the top of the key with 42 seconds remaining and Ronell Mingo added a layup with eight seconds left to cap a 7-0 run that carried the L.A. Lightning past the Las Vegas Stars 145-142 on Friday night. Bailey’s trey came after the Lightning grabbed three offensive rebounds on the same possession and put the visitors up by one, 143-142. Kamran Sufi, who handed out 12 assists, rebounded a missed 3-pointer by the Stars and managed to call timeout with 21.4 seconds left, just before he slid out-of-bounds.After leading by as many as 16 in the second quarter at the brand-new Centennial Hills YMCA, the Lightning (6-7) fell behind 142-138 on a layup by Eddie Shelby with 1:42 to play. That would be the last points for the Stars (9-8), who dropped their fourth straight IBL game. Ex-NBA standout Lamond Murray canned 14-of-26 on the night, including 6-12 from downtown, and led L.A. with a season-high 37 points. Mingo, a 6-9 center, added 26 points and 13 rebounds. Bailey knocked down 5-6 from long range in the second half when he tallied 18 of his 24 points. Demario Butler paced seven Las Vegas players in double-figures with 28 points. Friday, June 6--'08 (Game 148) - Edmonton Chill (111) vs. Windy City (113) - The Edmonton Chill let a 13-point half time lead slip away and then turned over the ball with eight seconds remaining in a tie game that led to a game winning lay-up for Windy City as the Soldiers went on to win 113-111. Erik Rhinehart scored 20 points to pace the Soldiers. Ron Evans and CeCe Malone each added a double-double in the victory. Evans had 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Malone finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Leading the way for the Chill was Stephen Parker with 21, while Rashaun Broadus and Lee Scruggs each chipped in with 15 points. Scruggs was also the leading rebounder with 13. Box Score.

Saturday, May 31--'08 (Game 144) - Windy City (105) vs. Los Angeles (104) - A cold shooting night and a frigid rebounding performance spelled disaster for the L.A. Lightning on Saturday night in a 105-104 loss to the Windy City Soldiers at Cal Lutheran. L.A., playing without leading scorers Toby Bailey (hand injury) and Lamond Murray (family business), hit just 41 percent in the IBL basketball game and were outrebounded 70-48, including a whopping 30-13 at the offensive end. The Lightning (5-7) erased an 18-point fourth-quarter deficit and took a 99-98 lead on a blocked shot by Ronell Mingo and a breakaway layup by Kamran Sufi, who dished out 13 assists. The Soldiers (8-11) scored the next seven points before Mingo hit two free throws and Fred Vinson nailed a 3-pointer with 36 seconds left, pulling the home team within a point at 105-104. Anthony Spencer, who led the Soldiers with 23 points, missed a shot with eight seconds left. L.A. rushed the ball upcourt and Phil Givens (22 points) missed a layup under pressure. The Lightning had one last chance with 0.4 on the clock but Givens’ 3-point try wasn’t close. DeMarcus Bolton scored 21 points and grabbed 16 rebounds (7 offensive), helping Windy City snap a six-game losing skid. Billy Knight scored 13 of his 23 points in the fourth quarter. Knight scored eight straight and Vinson followed with eighth of his own, narrowing the deficit to 95-94 with 3:53 to play. Saturday, May 31--'08 (Game 143) - Grand Rapids (129) vs. Vancouver (131) - The Vancouver Volcanoes won a hard fought game against the visiting Grand Rapids Flight on Saturday, despite an outstanding effort from Flight guard Kenny Langhorne. Kevin Tyner led a balanced Volcanoes’ attack featuring eight players scoring in double figures with a 23 point outing. Tyner also dished out 10 assists in the win. Langhorne also finished with a double-double—pouring in a game-high 49 points and grabbing 10 rebounds for Grand Rapids. Box Score.
Saturday, May 31--'08 (Game 142) - Las Vegas (101) vs. Snohomish County (123) The Snohomish County Explosion took advantage of the travel weary Stars en route to a 123-101 victory. The Explosion broke out with a 31-21 first quarter advantage fueled by 10 points from Chris Keller. Seven-foot center, Trevor Lawrence, dropped in 10 of the Stars 21 first quarter points. Las Vegas played an inspired second quarter, beginning the period on a 17-3 run on the way to a 59-56 halftime advantage. Four Stars were in double figures by the break led by 15 points from Mike Tabb. Chris Weakley led the Snohomish in the period connecting on 3 of 6 from three-point range for nine of his 13 points. The Explosion turned up the heat in the third period holding the Stars to just 18 points. Donald Watts dropped in 15 points and added three assists in the quarter. The Stars shot just 27 percent on 7 for 26 shooting including 0 for 7 from long range. The Explosion was on fire, shooting 54 percent in the quarter and held a 90-77 lead. The fourth stanza finished where the third left off. The entire Explosion roster got on the scoreboard tonight as all 12 players recorded points. Snohomish shot 50 percent for the game while holding the Stars to 40 percent and 0 for 14 from the three-point line in the second half. Box Score.
Saturday, May 31--'08 (Game 141) - Shanxi Zhongyu (102) vs. C. Oregon (133) - It was the farewell game for retiring Hotshot Arthur Lewis, and a packed-house watched Central Oregon send him off with a win on Saturday. Lewis, in his fourth season with the Hotshots, has been a fan favorite since first suiting up for the team in 2005. Jeff Dunn led the Hotshots with 28 points in the win. Lewis contributed 16 points and four assists. Zhang Xue Wen topped the Zhongyu with a 17 point effort. Box Score.
Saturday, May 31--'08 (Game 140) - Portland (111) vs. Edmonton Chill (130) - After a combined 85 first quarter points on Friday, the two teams played it much closer to the vest Saturday night as defense was the order for the first 12 minutes in this contest. Portland came back from an early small deficit to take a slim 24-22 lead after the first period. The second quarter saw the Chinooks play similar ball with Larry Smith leading the charge as they scored another 28 in the quarter. Jermaine Bucknor, however, scored 20 first half points for the Chill, giving the hometown squad a 62-52 lead at the half. From there, the Chill pulled away--leading at one point by 27. Bucknor was the high scorer for Edmonton with 29. Lee Scruggs had another double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, and Alex Steele handed out seven assists. For Portland, Kenny Tate led the way with 21 and Dean Browne was among two Chinooks with double digit rebounds with 12. Box Score.
Saturday, May 31--'08 (Game 139) - Gary Steelheads (121) vs. Elkhart (134) - The Elkhart Express came out on top in a match-up of two of the best teams in the IBL on Saturday. More than 3,300 fans were on hand to watch Elkhart defeat the Steelheads. The victory gives the Express a 2-1 lead in the season series, and avenges their sole loss of the season. Friday, May 30--'08 (Game 137) - Las Vegas (129) vs. Bellingham Slam (174) - Brandon Hartley’s first career triple-double helped guide the Slam to a new team record for most points in a single game, a 174-129 defeat of the Las Vegas Stars in International Basketball League action at Whatcom Pavilion on Friday. Hartley completed his triple-double with 13 points, ten rebounds and ten assists. Hartley is the second Slam player to record a triple-double this season, as Ryan Diggs recorded one on April 11 against Portland. The Slam took advantage of a grueling road schedule for Las Vegas, which had them playing eight games in nine days. Bellingham led 46-31 after the first quarter and continued to pour it on in the second quarter, and led 95-58 at halftime. Las Vegas came into the game as one of the hottest team in the IBL, winning nine of their last ten games. The Slam continued their hot streak, winning their eleventh consecutive game. Tyler Amaya scored 32 points to lead nine Slam players in double figures. Paul Hafford chipped in 21 points on 7-for-10 shooting from outside, and Kyle Dalvit set a new career high with 18 points. Friday, May 30--'08 (Game 136) - Grand Rapids (147) vs. Central Oregon (141) - The Grand Rapids Flight earned a hard-nosed victory on the road against the Central Oregon Hotshots 147-141 on Friday night in front of 462 energetic fans. Kenny Langhorne led the Flight with 40 points, including seven 3-pointers. He was followed closely by forward Rock Dillard, who added 34 points and 13 rebounds for his second 34 point game in a row. Friday, May 30--'08 (Game 135) - Windy City (120) vs. Los Angeles (135) - The Los Angeles Lightning won their fifth straight game on Friday--defeating the Windy City Soldiers at the Gilbert Sports Arena by the score of 135-120. Toby Bailey tallied 14 of his season-high 30 points in the fourth quarter Friday night as the L.A. Lightning pulled away for the victory. Los Angeles outshot the visitors from Chicago 59 to 41.2 percent. The Lightning (5-6) led 66-52 at intermission before the Soldiers (7-11) stormed back to pull within one, 95-94, early in the final period. Center Erik Rhinehart hit 5-9 from 3-point country and scored 27 points but it wasn’t enough to prevent the sixth straight loss by Windy City. DeMarcus Bolton added 24 points and nine rebounds. L.A. center Ronell Mingo scored 12 of his season-high 27 points in the fourth period, as the Lightning knocked down 70 percent (14-20) to outscore the Soldiers 42-30. Billy Knight scored 23 points in 30 mintues for the Lightning, who won despite the absence of leading scorer Lamond Murray and a 23-6 disparity in offensive rebounds. Box Score.

Monday, May 26--'08 (Game 127) - Central Oregon (117) vs. Bellingham (138) - The Bellingham Slam used a strong first half as they cruised to their tenth consecutive victory, 138-117, over the Central Oregon Hotshots in an International Basketball League contest Monday afternoon at Whatcom Pavilion. The Slam used a 21-9 run during the middle stages of the first quarter to establish a 37-23 lead after the first 12 minutes. Bellingham (12-2) furthered their lead to 32 by holding the Hotshots scoreless for the first 4:21 of the second quarter. The Slam rattled off 16 points in the run, with 10 coming from Paul Hafford. The Lynden Christian grad capped the streak with back-to-back three pointers from the corner to push the score to 55-23. Hafford finished the game with 18 points. With the Slam leading 77-50 at halftime, the two teams played an even third quarter, with Ryan Diggs helping push Bellingham’s advantage as high as 39 with 13 points in the quarter on 6-for-6 shooting. The Hotshots played strong in the latter portion of the period, outscoring the Slam 24-11 in the final six minutes to make the score 108-82 going into the final frame. With the Slam’s reserves seeing much of the action in the fourth quarter, Central Oregon outscored Bellingham 35-30 to account for the final margin. The two teams played at a furious pace throughout the game, combining for 237 shots and 139 rebounds. The Slam were led in scoring for the eighth time this season with 32 points. Seven other players scored in double figures, with Brian Dennis posting a double-double of 10 points and 15 rebounds. Phil Givens added 21, Lamond Murray had 19 and Billy Knight contributed 18 points, five rebounds and five assists. Knight scored 14 points in the second quarter and Bailey had 12, helping the Lightning to a 45-28 advantage. L.A. hit 37 shots from downtown for the weekend, 19 on Friday and 18 more on Saturday. Saturday, May 24--'08 (Game 119) - S. County (126) vs. Edmonton Chill (134) - Edmonton racked up their sixth straight victory with Saturday's win over the visiting Explosion. The Chill never trailed in the contest as they raced out to a 7-0 lead and had doubled up the Explosion 32-16 after the opening 12 minutes. The visitors were game opponents however as they scored a whopping 41 points in the second quarter including four quick ones as the time expired to pull within three at the half, 60-57. When the teams returned for the final 24 minutes, the Chill opened the game up and led by as much as 18 in the third, but as the Explosion shooters found their groove, they were able to whittle the lead to just three on some deep three’s from Chris Keller (12 points) and Jamal Miller (30 points). The Lightning (3-6) won their third straight IBL basketball game, thanks to season highs in points, points in a quarter (50 in the third) and 3-pointers (19-of-47). Bailey, a former UCLA star who just returned from a stint in the Spanish pro league, scored 10 of his 22 points in the first quarter, helping his team to a 29-14 lead. Knight, another ex-Bruin who was playing in France, came off the bench to hit 9-14 from the field and led eight L.A. players in double figures with 25. County Explosion (118) vs. Edmonton (126) - Stephen Sir put together his best all-around game of the season leading the Chill with 27 points--including six late free-throws to hold off a hard charging Snohomish Explosion and earn their fifth straight victory. The Chill were hot early and built a 9 point lead at the half, led by Sir, Teon Knox, and the newly arrived Jermaine Bucknor who scored 11 in the opening half while showing off his full range of skills. For the Explosion, Jamaal Miller and Bruce Cooper were the story all night. Miller was the leading scorer for Snohomish, dropping 23 points including 11 in the third quarter when the visitors cut a 14 point deficit to just six.The Explosion made a fourth quarter charge as well and cut the lead to three with a minute twenty to go but the Chill were able to play solid defense and rebound the defensive glass to keep Snohomish at bay. Saturday, May 17--'08 (Game 110) - Holland Blast (121) vs. Los Angeles (146) - The second win in L.A. Lightning history was a lot easier than the first. Lamond Murray tallied 32 points and 11 rebounds for the Lightning, who walloped the Holland Blast 146-121 on Saturday night by shooting 64.7 percent in the second half and 59.4 percent for the game. Phil Givens scored 24 of his career-high 31 in the second half for the Lightning , who beat Holland for the second time in as many nights at Cal Lutheran. Dennis Springs topped the Blast with 31 points. Kamran Sufi, a 5-9 point guard, handed out 21 assists in just 29 minutes in his L.A. debut. Dominick Melton had 19 points and 10 rebounds for the Blast, who’ve dropped their last five after starting 8-0. The Snohomish County Explosion used an outstanding defensive effort to take down the Central Oregon Hotshots in front of 745 fans at the Monroe Sports Arena on Saturday. The Explosion stymied the Hotshots in the first period, holding them to just 15 points on the way to an eight point first quarter lead. Donald Watts and Chris Keller paced the way with 8 points each in the opener. Hotshots leading scorer, Terry Horton, lead the way with 7 points in the first period. Alex Adediran came alive in the second stanza with 13 points in the period as the Explosion pulled out to a 52-40 halftime lead. Central Oregon wasn’t going to go away, however, as they held the Explosion to just four points in the first four minutes of the third period. They climbed back to within two points nearly midway through the third sparked by ten points from Horton. Snohomish rallied to pull away again as they went on a run of their own to extend the lead back to eleven points. They finished the third period ahead by 14 points. Central Oregon wouldn‘t get any closer as the Explosion pulled away in the final period for the rout. Watts’ team-high 24 points led six Explosion players in double figures. Adediran contributed 17 with Keller and Jamal Miller each adding 15 points. The Explosion dished out 29 assists on 46 field goals in another outstanding ream effort. Six of eight Central Oregon players reached double digits led by the game high 27 points from Horton. Cliff White added 15 and Doug Lamb chipped in 12 for the Hotshots. Friday, May 16--'08 (Game 104) - Central Oregon (112) vs. Bellingham (140) - The Bellingham Slam used a sustained effort and 32 points from Ryan Diggs as they defeated the Central Oregon Hotshots, 140-112, in an International Basketball League game Friday night at Whatcom Pavilion. The victory was the Slam's ninth consecutive, pushing their record to 11-2andsolidifying their position in first place in the IBL's West Division. After an even first six minutes, Bellingham used a 20-8 run over the rest of the quarter to post a 32-20 lead after the first quarter. The Slam furthered their lead with a 38-point second quarter to push their advantage to 25 points, at 70-45, at halftime. Bellingham came out dominant in the third quarter, opening with a three-pointer by Ryan Diggs sandwiched between dunks by Lukas Henne and Brian Dennis. With the Slam's reserves seeing most of the action in the fourth quarter, Bellingham used a 14-1 run to push their lead to 31, capping the rally with a three-pointer from Paul Hafford off a nifty Charlie Van pass. Diggs' 32 points earned him game-high scoring honors, while Tyler Amaya added a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds. Amaya narrowly missed a triple-double with eight assists. Friday, May 16--'08 (Game 103) - Holland Blast (123) vs. Los Angeles (128) - It wasn’t easy but it was the first IBL basketball win in franchise history and that’s all the L.A. Lightning cared about after holding off the Holland Blast 128-123 on Friday night at Cal Lutheran. Ex-NBA star Lamond Murray tossed in a season-high 32 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for the Lightning (1-6), who led 66-45 at intermission and stretched the margin to 31 (82-51) on a 3-pointer by Fred Vinson with 7:42 to go in the third period. The Blast cut the deficit to 100-87 entering the fourth and got within three with 18 seconds to play. Dennis Springs led all scorers with 34 points for Holland, which dropped its fourth straight to fall to 8-4. Springs nearly had a triple-double with nine rebounds and nine assists. Vinson knocked down 6-of-10 from 3-point country and tallied 22 points while Murray hit five treys, including four straight in the second quarter. Wayne Oliver collected 17 points and 10 rebounds. Saturday, May 10--'08 (Game 98) - Shanxi Kylins (84) vs. Snohomish County (122) - Following a 17-hour plane trip and a four hour van trip north from Portland, Oregon the Shanxi team from China suited for their inaugural IBL game. The competition marked the first truly international game for the IBL. The Explosion topped 122-84. Carrying a slim three point lead, the Explosion slammed the door, allowing only 11 second quarter points by Shanxi. The stifling defense held the Chinese team to 37 percent from the field in the first half and only 1 of 9 from the three point line. Meanwhile the explosion shot a blistering 46 percent en route to a 63-41 halftime lead. Shanxi would never get back in the game as the Explosion maintained the strong defense. The Explosion played the epitome of a team game, dishing out 28 assists on 50 field goals. Snohomish had five players in double figures led by the 29 of Alex Adediran, recently acquired from the Jazz of Tacoma. Adediran also snared 14 rebounds as the only Explosion player with a double-double. Chris Keller knocked down 22 points with Chris Weakley chipping in 20 points. Box Score.

Friday, May 9--'08 (Game 93) - Olympia Reign (123) vs. Bellingham (158) -The Bellingham Slam used a balanced attack as they soundly defeated the Olympia Reign, 158-123, in an International Basketball League counter at Whatcom Pavilion on Friday night. After falling behind early, Olympia regained their composure and played solidly in the second and third quarters. The Reign were only outscored by five points during those two periods, before the Slam’s athleticism got the better of them in the fourth quarter. Paul Hafford and Jacob Stevenson shared high scorer honors for the Slam with 25 points each. Diggs was not far behind with 24 points while Tyler Amaya had another strong game with a double-double of 22 points and 13 rebounds. The Slam enjoyed their best shooting night of the season, connecting on 59.1 percent of their shots from the floor. They also dominated the glass, out-rebounding the Reign by a 68-42 margin. The fourth-quarter blues struck the Los Angeles Lightning for the second straight night as they were outscored 37-27 en route to a 121-107 IBL basketball loss to the Las Vegas Stars. Demario Butler poured in 35 points and Mike Tabb added 29 for the Stars (2-4), who outshot the home team 61.9 to 34.6 percent in the final quarter at the Gilbert Sports Arena. The Lightning (0-6) trailed 84-80 entering the final period and were outscored 7-2, stretching the Stars’ lead to nine, 91-82. L.A. never got closer than eight the rest of the way. (112) vs. Bellingham Slam (149) -Paul Hafford led all scorers with 26 points as the Bellingham Slam cruised to a 149-112 International Basketball League victory Saturday night at Whatcom Pavilion. After an even first quarter, the Slam took advantage of the Explosion’s fatigue as Snohomish County was playing the second of back-to-back road games. The Slam outscored the Explosion 45-22 in the second quarter on 16 points from Hafford to build a 24-point halftime lead, at 78-54. The Explosion weren’t able to mount any sort of comeback in the second half, trailing by no fewer than 19 in the third quarter and 34 in the fourth. Hafford led seven Slam players in double figures. Tyler Amaya scored 21 points in his home debut and Jacob Stevenson chipped in 20. Snohomish County was led by Donald Watts’ 24 points and nine rebounds. Lightning couldn’t hold a big second-half lead for the second straight game Friday night and the Las Vegas Stars were happy to take advantage and post their first win, 106-95, at the Gilbert Sports Arena. Demario Butler scored 31 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the Stars (1-4). Eddie Shelby added 24 points, seven rebounds and six assists for the Stars, who trailed 78-71 in the waning seconds of the third quarter. They scored 15 of the next 17 points, however, and took an 86-80 lead on a layup by Shelby with 6:31 to play. Wayne Oliver led the expansion Lightning (0-5) with 22 points and 10 boards while 6-9 center Ronell Mingo notched his third straight double-double with 19 points and 15 boards. Box Score.
Friday, May 2--'08 (Game 79) - Elgin Racers (117) vs. Elkhart Express (123) - The Elkhart Express held off the Elgin Racers on Friday in front of 3,345 fans by the score of 123-117. The win improves Elkhart’s record to a perfect 7-0 on the season. Cedric Moodie paced the Express with a 26 point outing. James Tyler added 17 points and 10 rebounds. Brandon Watkins matched Moodie’s game-high 26 points to lead the Racers. Keith Gayden pitched in 25 points and a game-high 13 rebounds in the loss. Box Score.
Friday, May 2--'08 (Game 78) - Snohomish County (109) vs. Tacoma (103) - The Snohomish County Explosion defeated the Snohomish County Explosion on Friday by the score of 109-103 at Mount Tahoma High School. Donald Watts led the charge for the Explosion, scoring a game-high 34 points and grabbing nine rebounds. Chris Keller added 28 points in the victory. Antwon Jones paced the Jazz with a 22 point effort. Box Score.
Friday, May 2--'08 (Game 77) - Gary Steelheads (108) vs. Grand Rapids (111) - Grand Rapids halted the Gary Steelheads six game winning streak with a solid 111-108 win at home in front of 654 fans. Led by veteran guard Kenny Langhorne's 24 points, the Flight held off a furious comeback by the Steelheads in the final minutes. Newcomer Milo Stovall had 12 of his 15 points in the fourth, while leading the team with 7 rebounds from the point guard position.Grand Rapids erased a 17-point deficit in the first quarter to take a 2-point lead into the lockerroom at halftime. That lead was extended to 12 points before Gary cut the lead to 2 with less than a minute remaining in the game. After breaking the Steelheads full court press, guard Charles Thomas iced the win from the line as the Steelheads were unable to get a shot off at the buzzer. Rock Dillard added 16 points and Terrance Shaw had 15 in the win. Box Score.
Wednesday, April 30--'08 (Game 76) - W.Coast High Flyers (119) vs. Portland (146) The Chinooks won their second straight with Wednesday's 146-119 victory over the High Flyers. Larry Smith was again stellar for Portland, leading the team with 30 points in the win. Kenny Tate pitched in 20 points and 14 boards for the Chinooks. Box Score.
Tuesday, April 29--'08 (Game 75) - Central Oregon (134) vs. Portland (161) - The Portland Chinooks defeated the Central Oregon Hotshots in a neutral site game in Coos Bay on Tuesday. The Chinooks used a huge fourth quarter to key the win--turning a three point lead at the beginning of the final period into the eventual 27 point margin. Larry Smith had his best game as a Chinook, scoring 34 points including 10 three pointers. Kenny Tate added 31 points, and Chris Stephens 30 in the win. Jeff Dunn poured in 35 points for the Hotshots to lead all scorers. Box Score.
Sunday, April 27--'08 (Game 74) - Bellingham Slam (124) vs. Edmonton Chill (106) The Bellingham Slam won their second in a row against the Edmonton Chill, and their fifth straight game overall with Sunday’s 124-106 win in front of over 970 fans at the Grant MacEwan Centre. Ryan Diggs continued his stellar season with a team-best 24 points for the Slam to go along with seven rebounds and six assists. Lukas Henne added 23 points for Bellingham in the win.
